Raw: Homeless Man Footage

This is a video where a YouTuber called QuietAssassins (Joseph Costello) lends a camera to a homeless man in order to capture footage of what it is to be homeless, straight from the source.

The man is named Sandy and lives in Austin, Texas. According to the GoFundMe page that was set up for Sandy by Joseph Costello, the plan is to help him move to Michigan to stay with family and look for employment. Sandy has a Computer Science Degree but was unable to practice it after joining a religious cult and being brainwashed into it and being unable to get out until he was already crazy.

As I was watching this video I realized how well I had it. I have a small apartment with a roof over my head, I have food in my fridge, I have a laptop. phone, tablet, tv, and many other devices that I take for granted but have helped me practice and study for my Computer Science degree. Sandy’s story hits really close to home because I am currently studying for my own Computer Science degree so we probably have a lot more in common than I could possibly imagine. His aging face also makes me think of my grandparents and even my own parents. I would do anything to avoid a family member from having to spend their nights on a cold concrete sidewalk.

  1. Thank you for sharing this. I completely agree with you, sometimes we have to really pause for a minute and think about the things we are lucky enough to have when there are people out there that deserve it as much but don’t have that same luck. This video had the perspective from Sandy’s point of view and that is very nice to see as it will help open the eyes of those people that think that these guys do not deserve the chances they should be given. Speak soon, TPS.

I think it was a brave move for Sandy to do this. It is very important for everyone to realize that they, too, are humans. Many middle class and upper class people tend to disregard homeless people because they feel that they have nothing in common with them. Showing the human side of things can’t be purchased with currency.
