xCode Hack and List of iOS apps Affected
Earlier today MacRumors posted some bad news about xCode. Several Chinese iOS developers decided to download a version of xCode from an untrusted Chinese source called Baidu. And this terrible decision will cause everyone a lot of headaches for the weeks to come.
Bad Decisions Developers
You can easily download the xCode application from Apple’s website or from the Mac App Store for free. The reason that these developers decided to instead download it from an untrusted source is said to be because downloads from Apple servers are extremely slow in China. And these developers decided to trust a version of xCode that was not provided by Apple. Apple has recently announced that they are starting to remove these offending applications to save these people but the damage is already done.
Lost Trust in the Apple App Store
For a very long time Apple has kept a safe environment of applications. While Android lets a lot of virus infested Apps slip through the cracks Apple has been very careful in not letting any viruses go through. Unfortunately today they showed us that even they are vulnerable to viruses. While these applications can be easily cleaned out by the developers there is no doubt that people will not trust the App store like they have been in the past. And it is likely that some of these developers will lose a large part of their user base after this big slip.
This is a list of the apps that were affected:
